Taking a Taxi at Night in Istanbul
Both Istanbul airports have taxi service around the clock, so you can always get a ride after a late flight. Istanbul Airport says its published taxi fares are valid 24 hours a day. The main things to plan for at night are your hotel reception, your phone connection and having your address ready in writing.
Is It Harder to Find a Taxi at Night?
Taxis run through the night at both airports. Queues depend on how many flights land at once, and many flights arrive after midnight. If you would rather not queue after a long flight, a pre-booked taxi means that your driver is already waiting for you.
Do Fares Go Up at Night?
You will see claims online about night surcharges, and they often disagree. Istanbul Airport states that the fares in its table are valid 24 hours a day. Our own fixed fares are the same at any hour.
What Should I Sort Out Before a Night Landing?
- Check that your hotel reception is open, and tell them your arrival time
- Save your address offline, in case you have no connection on landing
- Check whether your phone will work on arrival, or use the airport Wi-Fi
- Keep your driver or hotel number somewhere you can read it easily
- If you land after midnight, book for the date you actually land
Is the Traffic Better at Night?
Usually, yes. Our route times cover the usual range, and the shorter end is more likely in the small hours. The city is rarely empty, though, and road works are often carried out at night, so we still suggest allowing a little extra time on a departure day.
