What Affects an Istanbul Airport Taxi Fare
A metered taxi fare from an Istanbul airport depends on the distance, the traffic, the type of taxi and any tolls. A pre-booked fixed fare depends only on the district and the car you choose. Neither is always cheaper. This guide explains what moves each price, so that you can decide which one suits your trip.
What Changes a Metered Fare?
- Distance: the further your hotel is from the airport, the higher the fare
- Traffic: a slow ride adds to the meter
- Taxi type: at Istanbul Airport, turquoise is 15% above orange and black is 70% above orange
- Tolls: Istanbul Airport says bridge and toll road charges are collected from the customer
- The Eurasia Tunnel: the airport says you also pay a bridge toll for the return of the taxi
What Changes a Fixed Fare?
With us, only two things: your district and your vehicle. Your fare is the same at 3 a.m. and 3 p.m., in light traffic and in heavy traffic, and it already includes VAT, tolls, parking and 60 minutes of waiting. See every fare on our taxi fares page.
Is a Metered Taxi Cheaper Than a Fixed Fare?
Often, yes, for a solo traveller or a couple on a clear road to a central hotel. We publish our fares so that you can compare. The fixed fare becomes better value as your group grows, as the fare is per car and not per person, and when the alternative is several taxis. It also removes the uncertainty of a long ride in traffic.
How Do Fares Compare for a Family?
Take a family of six with luggage. A standard taxi may not have room for everyone and every bag, and at Istanbul Airport the larger taxi types carry a higher tariff. Our Mercedes Vito carries six people with 6 large and 6 cabin bags for one fare, which is €95 to Taksim or Beşiktaş.
Why Do Published Taxi Prices Online Disagree?
Metered tariffs are set by the transport authority and change over time, and many websites keep old figures. For this reason, we do not quote a meter figure here. Check the current table on the airport website, which we link to below this guide, before you rely on any number.
