Uber or Taxi at Istanbul Airport
You can use Uber at Istanbul Airport, but it will not send you a private car. Uber’s own page for the airport lists three taxi options: Yellow Taxi, Large Taxi and Black Taxi. The price in the app is an estimate that can change on the way. A pre-booked taxi gives you one fixed fare per car, agreed before you fly, and a driver waiting at arrivals.
How Does Uber Work at Istanbul Airport?
In Istanbul the Uber app books a licensed city taxi. For rides to the airport, Uber lists Yellow Taxi, Large Taxi and Black Taxi, and suggests the larger ones if you have more passengers or luggage. You can request a ride straight away or schedule one with Uber Reserve, up to 90 days ahead.
Uber also states that it does not guarantee a driver will accept your request. Your ride is confirmed only when you receive the driver’s details.
Is the Uber Price Fixed?
No. Uber says the prices it shows for Istanbul Airport are for illustration, based on average prices over the past 12 months, and are not fixed or guaranteed. Even an upfront price can change if you add a stop, change the destination, if the route or the duration changes a lot, or if you pass a toll that was not included at the start.
How Does Uber Compare with a Pre-Booked Taxi?
| UBER APP | PRE-BOOKED WITH US | |
|---|---|---|
| The car | Yellow, Large or Black taxi | Mercedes Vito, E-Class, Sprinter or S-Class |
| The price | An estimate in the app, which can change | One fixed fare per car, in writing |
| Tolls | Can be added if not in the upfront price | Included in the fare |
| The driver | Confirmed when a driver accepts | Booked before you land, waiting at the arrivals exit with a name sign |
| Waiting | Depends on the request | 60 minutes after landing, included |
When Is Each One the Better Choice?
If you land without a booking and travel light, the app or the taxi rank will get you into the city. If you want the price settled before you fly, travel with family or a lot of luggage, or land late at night, a pre-booked taxi takes the uncertainty out of the arrival. Our fixed fares start at €95 per car from Istanbul Airport, with tolls included.
